Weather conditions
Contrasting weather patterns were the main characteristic of the 2010 vintage. After a long, hard winter and cool, rainy spring, vine vegetation grew unevenly, but the health of the vines was perfect. Summer weather set in at last in July with high temperatures but with drought conditions whitch lasted until August, despite cooler temperatures. The veraison went slowly and even when it was completed, full ripeness still seemed a long way off.
The summery weather in September (albeit with cool nights) and the Indian summer at the beginning of October turned things round and enable ripe and perfectly healthy grapes to be harvested. Alcoholic degree were high and very careful vinification was required to keep the wines in good balance.
Our work had only just begun!

Tasting comments
A very deep, dark purple colour, showing no signs of age. Quite expresive on the nose, extremely intense aromatically, with spice aromas coming to the fore (nutmeg, whitepeper, curry) together with black fruits in brandy (bilberries), liquorice and sandalwood. This sunny wine shows no heaviness or jammy fruit character. The palate is ample, dense and rich in the attack. Its tannic structure evolves with tickness and depth. The tannins are very fine-grained. The finish is now more balanced with sweet warmth counter-balancing lively acidity. The whole is underpinned by a saline note.
